Research Analyst – Resources (Mining, Metals, Energy & Commodities)

Are you passionate about equity research and the resources sector? We are recruiting for an experienced Research Analyst – Resources to join a leading South African institutional investment environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an analytical professional with a strong understanding of mining, metals, oil & gas, energy and commodity markets to provide investment research and recommendations that support high-value portfolio decisions.

Key Responsibilities • Conduct in-depth equity research within the resources sector.

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial and valuation models.
  • Produce well-researched investment recommendations and reports.
  • Monitor commodity markets and analyse macroeconomic trends impacting the sector.
  • Formulate commodity outlooks and provide market commentary.
  • Present investment recommendations and research findings to investment decision-makers.
  • Monitor portfolio and stock exposures and identify investment opportunities.

Minimum Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Finance or Science.

  • 3–5 years' experience in financial markets, equity research, investment banking or private equity.
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills.
  • Solid understanding of the resources sector, including commodity markets and industry cost drivers.
  • FAIS RE5 (or willingness to obtain within six months).

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience • Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Commerce or Science.

  • CFA, CA(SA) or MBA.
  • BSc Engineering, Geology or related qualification.
  • Previous experience within the mining, oil & gas or broader resources sector.

Skills Required • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Excellent financial modelling and valuation capabilities.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present investment ideas confidently.
  • Commercial awareness and sound business acumen.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced investment environment.
