Rescue Centre Manager (P6) (Faculty of Health Sciences: Department of Emergency Medical Care)

Job Description

• The successful incumbent would be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Centre, ensuring the delivery of high-quality training programmes and maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficacy in all teaching, learning and research activities. The role involves strategic planning, curriculum development, staff management and fostering relationships with external stakeholders to promote the Centre's strategic objectives as well as generate third-stream income. The role will include the facilitation of research projects in creating African solutions to rescue techniques and technologies.

Responsibilties

• Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Rescue Centre, including scheduling, resource allocation, record-keeping, general logistics, budget management and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
• Oversee procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Implement and monitor daily safety protocols and procedures to ensure a secure and controlled training environment, mitigating potential risks and promoting a culture of safety among all students and staff.
• Design, implement, and quality assure comprehensive short-learning programmes that align with the relevant industry standards and best practices, ensuring that all training activities meet regulatory requirements where applicable.
• Promote the Rescue Centre as a premier facility for external organisations to conduct training, simulations, and research.
• Identify areas for enhancement within different curriculum, facilities and operational processes, facilitating regular reviews and updates to position the Centre at the forefront of rescue training excellence.

Minimum requirements

• A Master's degree in Emergency Medical Care NQF Level 9 with current registration with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience facilitating medical rescue education at a higher education institution
• A Code B driver's license.
• Candidates must be in a position to pass departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.
• Experience with the functions related to a 16.2 appointee under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• A valid category C skipper licence with a minimum of 2 years' experience.
• Experience with water rescue operations.
• Training as an overhead crane operator.
• A valid breathable air compressor operator's licence
• Training and experience in the offering of helicopter underwater escape training.

Recommendations

• Experience with helicopter rescue operations
• Experience with national and/or international deployment for rescue missions.
• Knowledge of facility management, faculty and academic policies, rules, and regulations.
• Experience with online and/or remote learning platforms
