Release Train Engineer (RTE)

Introduction

The Release Train Engineer is a coach for the Product Delivery Stream (PDS). The RTE's primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth operation of the PDS, so that teams can deliver continuous value, aligned with their OKRs and set priorities. The RTE facilitates communication between stakeholders to ensure they have oversight of the PDS delivery risks, dependencies, resourcing and finances – with the ability to provide relevant reporting as an output of the delivery stream.    The role holder is able to respond to the ever changing needs of the PDS and focus in on solving complex delivery challenges when required.   The RTE is a champion of all things agile and helps the PDS and Enterprise pursue relentless improvement to improve delivery outcomes

• Support PI Execution Leadership and Coaching: Strong skills in leading cross-functional teams in a matrix management structure, ensuring focus on delivering value.  Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to manage and resolve issues effectively within the ART, becoming an escalation point for resolution.  Transparency: Promoting openness and visibility to identify challenges early and support Agile teams in becoming self-organising and accountable  PI Events: Ensures Product Delivery Streams PIs, including Inspect and Adapt events, are run effectively and focussed on achieving successful delivery outcomes Facilitate PI Planning Coordinate and Facilitate: Skilled in organizing and facilitating key ART events, including PIs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across teams, with a focus on cross-ART dependency management.  Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to prepare for and facilitate PI events, encouraging collaboration  Risk Champion: Embrace being a Risk Champion for the ART, ensuring risk management is adopted throughout the journey and adhering to the Enterprise Risk Management Framework – working with the risk owners to ensure risks are correctly logged, impact assessed and has suitable mitigation plans or acceptances where appropriate  Continual SAFe Optimisation through Coaching Coaching Product Delivery Stream events Coaching agile practices Coaching others  Agile Methodologies and Continuous Improvement: Experience and knowledge in Agile practices for coaching and implementing these practices across teams, fostering a continuous improvement culture. Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively and develop a culture of collaboration through the ART.  Finances and Reporting  Financial Management: Ability to track ART financials, ensuring the ART is resourced for success while maintaining budget alignment.  Reporting: Provide timely OKR MI into Group and ExCo reporting, coordinating the population and completion of key EXCO, Board, risk, and other governance presentation  Flow Metrics: Be a champion in reviewing and using Flow Metrics to maintain PI performance
