Job Description

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) presents an exciting opportunity for a QFSE Manager, to join the Polokwane team at CCBA.The role will report to the Manufacturing Manager.

CCBA is the 8th largest Coca-Cola authorised bottler in the world by revenue, and the largest on the continent. It accounts for over 40% of all Coca-Cola ready-to-drink beverages sold in Africa by volume. With over 14 000 employees in Africa, CCBA group services more than 800 000 customers with a host of international and local brands. CCBA group operates in 14 countries: South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi and the islands of Comoros and Mayotte.

Key Purpose

To provide strategic and operational leadership for Quality, Food Safety, Safety, Health, and Environmental performance, ensuring the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality products while driving a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and sustainable business practices across the plant.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Key Outcomes

Quality and Food Safety Management

  • Ensure consistent application and adherence to Coca-Cola quality and food safety standards (FSSC 22000, ISO 9001).
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Oversee laboratory performance, product testing, and analytical compliance.
  • Drive quality culture and consumer-centric focus across operations.

Environmental and Safety Compliance

  • Implement and monitor safety and environmental policies, procedures, and performance aligned to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Lead compliance with all statutory and Coca-Cola environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, investigations, and lead mitigation actions.

Systems and Governance

  • Maintain robust SHEQ systems to ensure effective data management, traceability, documentation, and reporting.
  • Ensure GMP, hygiene, pest control, and sanitation programs are effective and regularly reviewed.
  • Champion cross-functional governance meetings and management review sessions.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead and coach the QFSE team to build capability, improve performance and foster accountability.
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building across the plant on QFSE principles.
  • Promote a proactive and preventative safety and quality culture.

Performance Management and Reporting

  • Monitor and report on all QFSE KPIs, ensuring performance targets are met.
  • Drive action plans to address deviations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage with plant and national leadership on strategic quality and SHEQ issues.

Stakeholder and Regulatory Engagement

  • Interface with regulatory bodies, certification authorities, and auditors.
  • Collaborate with other site functions to support new product introductions, projects, and system changes.

Skills, Experience & Education

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • Certification in QMS, HACCP, or Environmental Management is highly advantageous
  • ISO Lead Auditor qualifications preferred

Experience

  • 5-8 years' experience in Quality or SHEQ management roles in FMCG or beverage manufacturing
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a high-compliance environment
  • Demonstrated success managing external audits and certifications (FSSC, ISO, NOSA, etc.)

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of quality and food safety management systems (FSSC 22000, ISO 9001)
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations and management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001)
  • Strong knowledge of microbiological and analytical testing procedures
  • Proficient in data analysis and root cause problem-solving tools ERP and QMS system literacy
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence and lead cross-functionally
