Proposals / Tenders Electrical Engineer – Renewable Energy

As the Proposals / Tenders Electrical Engineer , you will be responsible for developing technically sound and commercially competitive proposals and tender submissions for renewable energy projects. You will work closely with engineering, procurement, project management, finance, and business development teams to ensure that proposals meet client requirements while remaining technically feasible and commercially viable. Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret RFQs, RFPs, ITTs, tender documentation, and technical specifications .

• Develop electrical engineering solutions and technical concepts for renewable energy projects.

• Prepare technical and commercial tender submissions in line with client requirements.

• Develop and review single-line diagrams, electrical designs, equipment specifications, load calculations, cable sizing, protection concepts, and technical schedules .

• Prepare technical scope of work, equipment lists, bills of quantities, and other tender deliverables.

• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain and evaluate technical and commercial quotations.

• Support cost estimation, pricing, and project budgeting for tender submissions.

• Identify technical risks, exclusions, assumptions, and commercial opportunities within tender documentation.

• Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of supplier and subcontractor proposals.

• Participate in tender clarification meetings and respond to client technical queries.

• Collaborate with business development and sales teams to develop winning tender strategies.

• Ensure proposals comply with relevant South African standards, grid codes, legislation, and client specifications .

• Support handover of successful projects from the proposals team to engineering and project execution teams.

• Maintain accurate tender documentation, costing models, and proposal databases.

Requirements

• BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering or a related qualification.

• Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous.

• 3–7+ years' experience in electrical engineering, proposals, tenders, estimating, or project engineering.

• Experience within the renewable energy, power generation, transmission, distribution, or electrical infrastructure sectors .

• Demonstrable experience preparing and submitting technical tenders and proposals .

• Strong understanding of electrical systems and renewable energy technologies.

• Experience with solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), grid connection, MV/HV systems, or related technologies will be highly advantageous.

• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documentation.

• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costing.

• Excellent Excel and technical documentation skills.

• Strong communication, analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder-management abilities.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight tender submission deadlines
