Introduction

The PROJECTS PRACTITIONER is accountable for ensuring legal compliance with respect to capital project work which will include organising, planning and the administration of project schedules, budgets, orders and other technical deliverables.

Duties & Responsibilities

The SMELTER PROJECTS PRACTITIONER plays a critical role in the interfacing between technical staff and the work teams in execution of projects.

These work teams involve contractors, operators, engineering staff, supervisors of various disciplines, engineers and managers of the Smelter.

Technical information, specifications and data sheets are constantly needed and/or updated in the execution of projects and it is critically important that there is a general understanding of all disciplines along with the ability to share and convey information.

A good understanding of project phases as well as logical and chronological practical implementation steps are to be well understood to such a degree that a schedule can be built and managed accordingly.

The Project Practitioner will also be responsible for the administrative and planning functions relating to Minor Capital Projects which typically relates to:

· Need analysis

· Scoping of the work required

· Scheduling of the work required

· Resource allocation of the work required

· Planning of procurement packages

Desired Experience & Qualification

At least 5 years post test trade qualification experience (within an engineering, property maintenance, equipment maintenance and general civil and steel construction environment) of which 2 years should have been in a supervisory role.

Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification.

Completed formal Learnership programme prior to obtaining an ELECTRICAL or FITTER ARTISAN – Trade certificate as recognised by the MQA.

Any form of qualification in Project Management would be advantageous.

Any form of training in MS Projects or any other scheduling software would be advantageous.
