Project Engineer - Mechanical (Mining & Infrastructure) - Johannesburg

Introduction

Our client, a leading global engineering and project delivery organization, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join their team in Bryanston .

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across mining, process plant, and infrastructure projects, providing hands-on project engineering expertise throughout the entire project lifecycle - from initial studies through to procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinate mechanical engineering and design activities across multidisciplinary projects to ensure seamless integration.

• Manage engineering scopes, deliverables, schedules, design interfaces, and budgets.

• Support the development, preparation, and management of mechanical procurement packages.

• Facilitate technical communication between engineering, procurement, project management, vendors, and site teams.

• Oversee engineering changes, manage risks, and resolve technical queries throughout the project lifecycle.

• Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.

• Participate in design reviews, vendor document reviews, and project handover processes to maintain quality and compliance.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

• BSc, BEng, BTech, or equivalent (NQF Level 7) in Mechanical Engineering.

• Professional registration with a recognized engineering institution (ECSA).

• 5–10 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in mining and infrastructure projects.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience working on process plant and infrastructure projects.

• Practical experience in hydrometallurgical and/or chemical plant projects.

Technical Experience & Desirable Attributes

• Deep understanding of engineering coordination, procurement, construction support, and project delivery.

• Experience in hydrometallurgical or chemical plant process interfaces.

• Operational experience within mining, processing, or hydrometallurgical plants (Advantageous).

• GCC Mines & Works certification (Advantageous).

• SAIMechE membership (Advantageous).

• Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.

Software

• 3D BIM & Plant Design Review Tools (e.g., Navisworks, SP3D, E3D / PDMS).

• 2D CAD Software (Autodesk AutoCAD).

• Project Management & Scheduling Software (MS Project / Primavera P6).

• Engineering Calculation Tools (e.g., Pipe-Flo, CAESAR II, or equivalent hydraulic/piping packages).

Key Skills
