Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) presents an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer, to join the Devland team at CCBA.The role will report to the Manufacturing Manager.
CCBA is the 8th largest Coca-Cola authorised bottler in the world by revenue, and the largest on the continent. It accounts for over 40% of all Coca-Cola ready-to-drink beverages sold in Africa by volume. Key Purpose
The Project Engineer provides technical leadership in the execution of CCBSA capital projects, ensuring solutions are engineered to enhance reliability, productivity, and compliance. The role ensures new equipment and infrastructure integrate effectively into plant operations while meeting all project milestones related to safety, quality, cost, and performance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outcomes
Project Planning & Execution
- Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and milestones for engineering projects at the plant.
- Collaborate with the Head Office Project Engineering team to align with broader capital investment strategy.
- Ensure effective execution and completion of projects in accordance with CCBSA specifications and business priorities.
Technical and Engineering Assessment
- Conduct feasibility studies, site evaluations, and scope development for new equipment, utilities, and facilities.
- Lead design reviews and validate engineering solutions meet operational requirements.
- Oversee installation, commissioning, and handover of projects to production and maintenance teams.
Cost and Procurement Management
- Prepare accurate project cost estimates and manage budget performance for plant projects.
- Support procurement by developing technical specifications for tenders and reviewing vendor proposals.
- Track and control project expenditure, ensuring optimal cost-benefit outcomes.
Contractor and Construction Oversight
- Manage site activities and contractors to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Enforce compliance with CCBSA safety and environmental policies and relevant legal regulations.
- Monitor construction schedules, troubleshoot on-site issues, and escalate risks where necessary.
Stakeholder Coordination and Communication
- Engage with internal departments (maintenance, quality, safety, production) to ensure smooth integration of new assets.
- Keep key stakeholders informed of project progress, milestones, and issues.
- Prepare and present project reports, technical documents, and closure reports.
Quality, Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure projects conform to internal and statutory quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Conduct project risk assessments and implement mitigation plans.
- Drive the use of sustainable and energy-efficient design principles where possible.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechatronic Engineering
- PMP or Project Management Certification is advantageous
- Registration or eligibility for registration with ECSA (advantageous)
Experience
- 5+ years' experience in project engineering within an FMCG, food and beverage, or manufacturing environment
- Proven track record in delivering capital and plant improvement projects
- Experience managing multidisciplinary contractors and cross-functional teams
Skills
- Proficiency in project management software
- Strong knowledge of engineering project lifecycle and stage-gate principles
- Familiarity with utility systems (e.g., compressed air, steam, water treatment, HVAC)
- Knowledge of safety legislation and SANS standards
- Budgeting and cost analysis skills
- Strong analytical, planning, and execution capability
- High computer literacy
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
