Project Engineer - BMR (Base Metal Refinery) - Marikana

Introduction

The Project Engineer is accountable for supporting the planning, design, coordination and delivery of engineering and construction activities within the assigned operational area of the Capital Programme Group. The role ensures that projects are executed safely, within approved scope, schedule, budget and quality requirements, and in accordance with applicable engineering standards, legal requirements and stakeholder expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction, engineering input and business guidance to project teams, service providers and contractors.

• Participate in project scope development, design reviews, standards formulation and technical decision-making.

• Prepare, review and support technical scopes of work, tender documentation, specifications and engineering deliverables.

• Coordinate engineering and construction activities across relevant disciplines to ensure alignment with approved project baselines.

• Monitor compliance with applicable codes, engineering standards, QA/QC requirements, legal obligations, safety requirements and environmental standards.

• Review contractor and service-provider work to ensure quality, constructability, technical compliance and alignment with project specifications.

• Support procurement processes by providing technical evaluations, bid inputs and engineering clarifications where required.

• Monitor project progress, schedules, expenditure and variances, and escalate risks, deviations and corrective actions to the Project Manager.

• Prepare project status updates, technical reports, cost inputs and supporting documentation for governance and decision-making.

• Maintain accurate project records, scope documents, engineering data and close-out information.

• Contribute to safe project execution by reinforcing procedures, standards, risk controls and site requirements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• B.Tech Engineering Degree.

• PMP Qualification Advantageous.

• Professional registration as an Engineer, where applicable, will be advantageous.

• Minimum of five years’ engineering or construction experience in a projects, maintenance or capital-projects environment, including at least three years in a leadership, coordination or supervisory capacity.

• Project planning, scheduling and baseline control.

• Engineering design interpretation, technical review and constructability assessment.

• Cost control, expenditure monitoring and variance reporting.

• Contractor, consultant and service-provider coordination.

• Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, policies, procedures and best practices.

• Understanding of safety, health, environmental, quality and legal compliance requirements in an engineering and construction environment.

• Technical scope development, tender input and bid evaluation support.

• Computer literacy, including project management tools and relevant engineering or design visualisation software.

• Ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting.
