- Basic R425 qualification i.e. diploma/degree in nursing or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- A post-basic Diploma in midwifery and Neonatal Advanced Midwifery with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in midwifery and Neonatal Advanced Midwifery.
- Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in general nursing. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Midwifery and Neonatal.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in the specific speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in in midwifery and Neonatal Advanced Midwifery.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council SANC receipt and registration certificate.
Duties
- Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related frameworks. Perform a clinical nursing practice and nursing standard as determined by the relevant health facility. Promote quality of nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the relevant health facility. Work as part of multidisciplinary team to ensure good nursing care.
- Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Work effectively, co-operatively with persons of diverse intellectual, cultural, racial or religious differences. Display a concern for patients promoting advocating proper treatment and care including awareness and willingness to respond to patient's needs, requirements and expectations.
- Manage, co-ordinate and facilitate Basic Ante Natal package of Care including HIV&AIDS, PMTCT and Women's Health to patients within set standards and professional /legal framework. Improve perinatal mortality and morbidity through implementation of priority programmes. Improve positive perinatal outcome through the knowledge and implementation of Guidelines for maternity care in South Africa.
- Participate in the implementation of priority programs and strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality. Be able to lead the shift and to take overall management of the unit in the absence of the Operational Manager. Evaluate staff performance adhering to the set standards of the PMDS.
- Motivate, coach, and mentor staff. Management and control of scheduled drugs. Be prepared to do day and night shifts. Any other duties as required by the supervisor
