The main function of this position is to strategize and negotiate with suppliers and vendors in order to acquire the most cost-effective deals and to reduce procurement expenses within the Western Cape Region.
Duties & Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy & Compliance
- Create and implement procurement strategies and systems that are innovative, cost-effective and incorporate the growing complexities and challenges within the industry
- Identify and interpret related legislation and its impact on the procurement functions and ensure compliance
- Strategise, research, develop and review appropriate procurement technologies, systems, processes and adopt best practices
- Ensure adherence to all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Review existing contracts with suppliers and vendors to ensure on-going feasibility
- Approve purchase orders and organise and confirm delivery of goods and services
- Perform risk assessments on potential contracts and agreements and establish the terms and conditions of new contracts
Financial & Operational Management
- Examine and report on Region net profitability and stock holding
- Control the procurement budget and promote a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs
- Lead transformational activities to build procurement organisational capabilities and improve procurement efficiency
Desired Experience & Qualification
Essential
- Technical Qualification / N3 / Equivalent
- Proven Experience as a Procurement Manager
- Strong Knowledge of MS Office and Procurement Software Packages
- Knowledge of Sourcing and Procurement Techniques and ability to "read" the market
- In-depth Knowledge of Contracts, Invoicing and Negotiation Terms
