Process Operator Internship (Water Treatment Plant) - Greenbay, Gordon's Bay

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the treatment plant, ensuring that treated water consistently meets quality standards while maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working with mechanical equipment, treatment processes, and operational systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate the water treatment plant to achieve required water quality standards.

• Perform routine inspections, sampling and water quality testing.

• Monitor and adjust chemical dosing, filtration systems and process parameters.

• Identify operational problems and assist with troubleshooting.

• Record operational data and complete daily plant reports.

• Perform basic maintenance on pumps, valves and other plant equipment.

• Assist technicians with preventative and corrective maintenance.

• Maintain excellent housekeeping and plant cleanliness.

• Handle treatment chemicals safely and ensure correct storage procedures.

• Monitor chemical stock levels.

• Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements.

• Participate in commissioning, optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Respond appropriately during plant breakdowns and emergency situations.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) (Essential)

• Higher Certificate or Diploma in Water Care, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field will be advantageous.

Experience

• Previous experience in water treatment operations will be advantageous but is not essential.

• Exposure to water treatment processes such as filtration, chemical dosing and disinfection would be beneficial.

Technical Skills

• Basic understanding of water treatment processes.

• Mechanical aptitude with pumps, motors, valves and control systems.

• Ability to interpret basic operational data.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must

• Have reliable transport to and from the site.

• Be willing to work in an industrial environment.

• Be physically fit and capable of:

• Handling treatment chemicals safely.

• Lifting equipment (up to 20–50 kg).

• Climbing ladders.

• Working in confined spaces.

• Wearing the required PPE.

Package & Remuneration

Salary: R9,000 CTC per month.
