Introduction

TP-Link South Africa is looking for a technically strong, confident and customer-focused Pre-Sales Engineer to join our Cape Town and Gauteng team.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing technical position supporting our Channel, B2B, B2C and ISP Sales teams across the Western Cape.

The successful candidate will work closely with Sales to understand customer requirements, recommend and design suitable networking solutions, conduct product demonstrations and Proof of Concepts (POCs), and provide technical training and support to customers, distributors, resellers and partners.

A significant part of this position involves presenting and training . You must therefore be comfortable communicating with individuals and small technical teams as well as presenting confidently to larger groups at training sessions, workshops and partner events .

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Channel, B2B, B2C and ISP Sales teams as the technical representative during customer and partner engagements.
  • Meet with customers to understand their technical and business requirements.
  • Design and recommend appropriate networking solutions based on customer requirements.
  • Assist with solution architecture, product selection, network design and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Conduct product demonstrations, technical presentations and Proof of Concepts.
  • Deliver technical product training to customers, distributors, resellers, partners and internal Sales teams.
  • Present confidently to audiences ranging from small customer meetings to larger technical training sessions, workshops and partner events .
  • Support ISP/WISP customers with networking and connectivity solution requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance across switching, routing, wireless networking, VPN, PoE and network management solutions.
  • Assist with CCTV/IP surveillance and network integration requirements where applicable.
  • Provide implementation guidance and advanced technical troubleshooting where required.
  • Work closely with Sales to ensure proposed solutions are technically appropriate and commercially practical.
  • Assist Sales teams in responding to technical customer questions and requirements.
  • Keep up to date with new networking technologies, product developments and competitor solutions.
  • Provide technical feedback from customers and partners to relevant internal teams.

Technical Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate should have solid practical knowledge and experience in several of the following areas:

  • TCP/IP and networking fundamentals
  • Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking
  • Routing and switching
  • VLAN configuration
  • DHCP, DNS and NAT
  • VPN technologies
  • Enterprise Wi-Fi and wireless networking
  • Managed switches and Access Points
  • PoE
  • ISP/WISP networking environments
  • Fibre networking
  • Network troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Network infrastructure monitoring and escalation

Knowledge of CCTV/IP surveillance networking and integration would be advantageous.

Experience with networking technologies or vendors such as TP-Link, Omada, VIGI, MikroTik, Ubiquiti, Cisco, Aruba, Huawei, Cambium, Ruijie or similar would be beneficial.

Experience & Requirements

  • Relevant IT, Networking or Telecommunications qualification, or equivalent practical industry experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience within networking, NOC, ISP/WISP, systems integration, technical support, solutions engineering or pre-sales.
  • Strong practical understanding of network infrastructure and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident public speaking and presentation ability.
  • Comfortable presenting technical information to both small and large audiences .
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with customers, distributors, resellers and Sales teams.
  • Willing and able to conduct regular technical training, demonstrations and partner enablement sessions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Professional, customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across Technical and Sales teams.
  • Fluent professional English.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel within the Western Cape as required.

Advantageous Experience

Experience in one or more of the following environments would be highly beneficial:

NOC / Network Operations | ISP / WISP | Network Engineering | Pre-Sales Engineering | Systems Integration | Enterprise Wireless | Technical Support | CCTV / IP Surveillance | Technical Training

Relevant networking or vendor certifications would be advantageous.

Who Would Suit This Role?

You do not necessarily need to currently hold the title Pre-Sales Engineer .

You may currently be working as a Network Engineer, NOC Engineer, ISP/WISP Engineer, Solutions Engineer or Technical Support Engineer and be ready to move into a broader customer-facing technical position.

What matters is that you have a strong networking foundation, enjoy solving technical problems and can communicate your technical knowledge confidently to others.

You should be equally comfortable troubleshooting a networking problem with an engineer, designing a solution for a customer, supporting a Sales representative during a customer meeting, demonstrating a product, and standing in front of a room delivering technical training.

This role requires someone who is technically credible, confident, engaging and comfortable working with people . If you prefer spending your entire day behind a screen, this is probably not the position for you.
