Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification, appropriate Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification that allows for registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist Assistant Post-Basic.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council SAPC as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant. Proof of payment for current annual registration.
  • Other Skills: Own discipline, knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, policies, implementation and information management, quality assurance and improvement programs, leadership and communication, problem solving, computer literacy, stress tolerance, self-confidence, objectiveness and empathy.
  • Acquaintance with standard operating procedures for pharmaceutical services and primary healthcare standard treatment guidelines. Work effectively as part of a team.
  • No criminal record or dismissal for misconduct at previous places of work. Knowledge of Rx Solution will be advantageous. Previous experience in public sector pharmacies will be to your advantage. Must be willing and capable of lifting heavy boxes and performing strenuous manual work. Must be willing to work overtime.

Duties

  • The incumbent of the post will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. within the scope of the following duties: Stock control which includes receiving, issuing, reporting and maintenance of stock electronic and manual systems, including receiving of bulk stock according to FEFO/FIFO, batch and expiry dates, correct storing of stock, issuing of stock on monthly and emergency orders, and assist with doing variance investigations on all stock in the store where discrepancies are experienced.
  • Ensuring proper storage of medicines. Dispensing of medicine, including the receive, read and checking of prescriptions for legality, authenticity and validity.
  • Ensuring appropriate use of medicine. Executing dispensary administrative functions. Reporting on low stock and soon to expire stock. Participating in pharmacy education programs. Advice and support patients and other health care professionals regarding pharmaceutical issues.
