- To deliver a strategy aligned portfolio of successful technology innovation projects with plans to move from one TRL level to the next towards full commercialization
Minimum Requirements Qualifications:
- A degree in Life Sciences
- Preferred: A Masters's Degree in the Life Sciences, with emphasis in Human Health .
- An appropriate business qualification would be an advantage
Work Experience
- 3 years experience within an innovation management environment
- Preferred: 3 years innovation management experience plus 2 years' experience in a commercial or portfolio management context, with demonstrable experience in the ability to evaluate opportunities for funding recommendation
Duties and Responsibilities Finance
- Assist the head to develop divisional budgets and forecasts for EXCO and Board approval
- Monitor and track performance against budget operations and projects
- Manage and monitor the timeous disbursement of funding to ensure optimal operation of technology and innovation projects.
- Identify new funding opportunities and raise additional income from third party investors.
- Manage repayment obligations by funded projects to TIA equity and royalties, investments and loans
Stakeholder Relations Plans
- Provide input into the formulation of a Stakeholder relationship strategy specific to the Business Unit.
- Develop or contribute to media publications on any aspect related to the role
- Build an effective eco system around the portfolio including key stakeholder relations.
- Participate in events, meetings, workshops and conferences by giving input, avail skill, competency and expertise.
Internal Processes
- Adhere to all relevant policies and frameworks is maintained
- Comply with all TIA systems fund management, performance management, HR, finance, Stakeholder information, etc. is maintained
- Resolved all portfolio audit matters are
- Ensure that project information is accurately and completely recorded on the fund management system, or similar
- Ensure timeous and accurate reporting as per requirements
- Assist applicants with building a fundable opportunity and to assess investment opportunities
- Provides support and assistance to projects to achieve their milestones
- Pro-actively identify of project risks and portfolio opportunities, together with project teams
- Perform technical due diligence on TIA projects and programmes
- Efficiently managed all aspects of the project life cycle, from sourcing to exit
- Facilitate the commercialisation of TIA projects and investments
- Build a pipeline of investment opportunities for the strategic technology areas
Governance and Compliance
- Adhere to all governance and compliance policies and procedures of TIA
- Ensure compliance with Legislation, e.g. PFMA and National Treasury Guidelines;
- Ensure compliance to all relevant accounting Standards, Policies and Frameworks; and
- Ensure Compliance with TIA Standard Operating Procedures
- Enter into a performance agreement with the organisation
- Achieve key performance targets as set in the performance agreement.
- Review own, Unit and Divisional performance against agreed performance standards
- Identify and implement development opportunities to ensure continuous improvement of work effectiveness and efficiency
