The purpose of this role is to manage the overall plant performance in terms of key performance METRICS and ensure to implement and maintain the applicable safety regulations.
Duties and responsibilities: 1. Legal Appointee Responsibilities
- Fulfil all duties and obligations as defined by the relevant legislation and regulations applicable to a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) Plant Engineer.
- Ensure statutory compliance of all plant, equipment, and engineering systems within the area of responsibility.
- Act as the responsible engineering authority for plant safety, integrity, and operational reliability.
- Maintain engineering standards, procedures, and records in compliance with legal and company requirements.
2. Health, Safety, Environment and Risk Management
- Promote and maintain a zero-harm safety culture throughout the operation.
- Ensure all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with company safety standards and legislative requirements.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate engineering-related risks through formal risk assessments and control measures.
- Lead investigations into engineering-related incidents, equipment failures, and safety events, ensuring implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable engineering practices.
3. Asset Management and Reliability
- Maintain asset management strategies to maximize plant availability, reliability, and performance.
- Ensure preventative, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs are effectively executed.
- Monitor equipment performance indicators and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime.
- Lead root cause failure analyses (RCFA) and drive permanent solutions to recurring equipment issues.
4. Engineering and Maintenance Management
- Ensure the availability of critical spares, tools, and resources required for plant maintenance.
- Review and approve engineering designs, modifications, repairs, and installations.
- Oversee plant shutdowns, major maintenance projects, and equipment commissioning activities.
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and best practices across the operation.
5. Project Management
- Lead and manage capital and improvement projects from concept through implementation and commissioning.
- Manage contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with company standards and project requirements.
6. Leadership and People Management
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to supervisors, artisans, and apprentices.
- Develop engineering succession plans and competency development programs.
- Conduct performance management and facilitate skills development within the engineering department.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
7. Operational Support
- Support production teams in achieving operational targets through effective engineering solutions.
- Participate in production planning activities to optimize plant performance and availability.
8. Continuous Improvement
- Drive operational excellence initiatives aimed at improving plant efficiency, reliability, and cost performance.
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement across all engineering disciplines.
9. Financial Management
• Monitor expenditure and implement cost-control measures without compromising safety or reliability. Qualification requirements:
• Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree • GCC Mines and Works. – NON NEGOTIABLE Experience and skill requirements:
- 5 – 8 years’ experience as Section Engineer in a plant environment.
- PGM, Chrome Processing plant experience will be advantageous.
- English language proficiency.
- Computer Literate in MS Office.
- Presentation Skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Employee Relations and People management skills.
- TEAM Player.
