We are seeking a skilled and motivated PHP Developer to join our dynamic Revenue Systems team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing robust web applications. The ideal candidate will be passionate about backend development, performance optimisation, and building secure, scalable systems that integrate seamlessly with front-end technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a PHP-based platform, leading knowledge transfer from external partners and becoming the internal technical expert.
- Maintain platform stability, security, and performance, including incident management, monitoring, and continuous optimisation.
- Manage system updates, dependencies, and security vulnerabilities to ensure a resilient and up-to-date environment.
- Design, develop, and deliver new features in collaboration with Product and Delivery teams, writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and contribute to planning and estimation.
- Design and optimise databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), ensuring data integrity and resolving performance issues.
- Build and maintain secure RESTful API integrations with internal and third-party systems.
- Establish and promote best engineering practices, including testing, documentation, version control, and deployment standards.
- Support the growth of the internal engineering team through knowledge sharing, onboarding, and technical guidance.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- 5+ years’ commercial PHP development experience, with a proven track record delivering and maintaining scalable production systems.
- Strong experience with PHP frameworks (Laravel/Symfony) and ability to work across both modern and legacy codebases.
- Solid knowledge of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), including schema design, query optimisation, and ORM usage (Eloquent/Doctrine).
- Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs, with understanding of authentication methods (OAuth2, API keys, JWT) and secure design practices.
- Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows, including pull requests and CI/CD pipelines.
- Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum environments, with the ability to quickly onboard into existing systems and navigate complex or non-standard codebases.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience with a strong portfolio of live systems) .
- Proficiency in modern PHP (version 8.0 or later) is essential.
