- The purpose of a People Accountant is to provide financial expertise and support to the People function by managing employee-related financial processes, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and Total Cost of Employment TCE analysis.
- The role ensures accurate financial information, alignment of financial policies and processes, compliance with governance requirements, and informed decision-making through collaboration with People, Finance, and other stakeholders.
What you'll do
Employee Centric Delivery
- Support and execute the finance function for the People function and ensuring that finance activities are executed in line with policies and procedures.
- Partner with the People Partners and Business Finance Managers.
- Managing the accurate and timeous delivery of management report inputs. Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly financial transactional information as required and ensuring compliant data storage and accessibility for future reference: reporting, customer request, audit etc.
- Assisting and coordinating divisional People and HO Departmental Budgets.
- Supporting the management of the People budget for the Group.
- Support the ensuring of effective cost controls and monitoring mechanisms.
- Providing creditor, reconciliation, and payment related activities for the People function.
- Actively sharing insights and information with the People HO team and acting as a financial knowledge resource for local people teams.
- Preparation and provision of cost of employment reports for various functional areas within the business.[WE1.1][AA1.2]
- Support the management of employee related liabilities i.e., leave, workman compensation and accruals financial transaction entries according to the correct companies and profit centres.
- Supporting the People function with various administrative inputs and costing analysis to build People optimisation trend and forecasting models.
Financial, Reporting & BI
- Managing People Finance costs whilst ensuring service delivery to the business.
- The collection and use of People Finance data and business intelligence to effectively deliver People Finance services.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management
- Ensures the accuracy of financial data and reports
- Analysing and tracking the total cost of employment for the entire business.
- Develop and maintain financial models and tools to support the analysis of TCE
- Preparation of Income Statements
- Preparation of Budgets for the People Team.
- Preparation of Month-end Journals.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensuring that People Finance complies with relevant labour relations frameworks and legislation.
- Ensuring compliance to organisational and legislative governance frameworks and standards.
- Ensuring the required governance and alignment of People Finance solutions and services within the Shoprite Group.
- Identification and mitigation of People Finance risks.
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards and regulations related to employee-related costs.
Future-Fit
- Working closely with the audit function to ensure that all risks and related areas of reconciliations are identified for audit purposes - at an in-store, Divisional and Head Office level and communicating with, participating in and supporting all audit activities and closing of findings etc.
- Providing support during the implementation and streamlining of finance systems and procedures through automation, control implementation and monitoring.
- Ensuring integration and effective flow of work with other solution areas and business.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in People Finance processes.
- Identification of relevant People Finance technology requirements where required.
What you bring
- Degree in Accounting or equivalent - essential.
- +5 years in an Accounting or equivalent role, providing HR Finance support according to policies, procedures, and guidelines - essential.
- Experience and proficient understanding of Standard Accounting Practices – essential.
- Experience within the FMCG, retail sector or similar - preferred.
- Exposure to statutory requirements, applying and monitoring relevant laws, regulations, and best practices as they relate to HR Finance. Knowledge of HR policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations - preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel - intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel - essential.
- Exposure to SAP - preferred.
- Exposure to BPC – advantageous.
