  • The Department of Visual Communication at TUT invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer positions in Integrated Communication Design for 2027 at the Arts Campus.
  • We are seeking suitably qualified professionals with expertise in visual communication design, integrated communication design and related design fields to support teaching, learning and assessment across ICD modules.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATION

  • For Diploma modules: Advanced Diploma or B-Tech NQF Level 7 in Visual Communication, Integrated Communication Design, User Experience Design, Digital Media Design, Motion Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia or a related field.
  • For Advanced Diploma modules: Postgraduate Diploma NQF Level 8 in Arts and Design Visual Communication, Integrated Communication Design, User Experience Design, Digital Media Design, Motion Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia or a related field.
  • For Postgraduate Diploma modules: Master's degree NQF Level 9 in Arts and Design Visual Communication, Integrated Communication Design, User Experience Design, Digital Media Design, Motion Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Multimedia or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years of industry-related experience in the Visual Communication Design field.
  • At least two years of lecturing and/or research experience in the Visual Communication Design field.
  • Additional experience in game design, animation, illustration and generative design would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in English is a prerequisite.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and conduct timetabled lectures for the relevant Integrated Communication
  • Design modules, including multimodal and technology-enabled teaching where required.
  • Use creative, interactive and discipline-appropriate teaching strategies to support student learning and engagement.
  • Develop, administer and mark assessments, practical projects, theoretical assignments and tests in line with module outcomes.
  • Provide student consultation, academic support, mentorship and guidance.
  • Manage module administration, including attendance records, mark capturing, learning files, lesson plans and uploading content on myTUTor or other approved platforms.
  • Participate in programme, subject and departmental meetings, as well as practical design review and assessment panels where applicable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Knowledge: Sound knowledge of visual communication design, integrated communication design, user experience design, digital media design, motion design, interaction design, teaching and learning approaches, student assessment, learning technologies and current developments in the visual communication and design industries.
  • Skills: Strong presentation, facilitation, communication, assessment, planning, project coordination, digital teaching and student support skills.
  • Attributes: Professionalism, integrity, reliability, attention to detail, collaborative engagement, student-centeredness, adaptability and commitment to academic excellence.
