- Diploma/ Degree in General Nursing that allows registration with the 'South African Nursing Council' SANC as a Professional Nurse. Certificates of Registration with the SANC General Nursing Current registration with the SANC 2026. Diploma / Degree in Nursing Administration will be an added advantage. Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
- Experience: a minimum of 7 years appropriate/ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Experience in Surgical Services will be an added advantage.
Knowledge, Skills Training And Competencies Required
- Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices. Sound knowledge of surgical nursing care, clinical guidelines, infection prevention and control, patient safety and quality assurance standards. Possess effective communication skills for dealing with patients, supervisors and members of the multidisciplinary team, including report writing.
- Good human relations, demonstrating concern for patients and promoting and advocating proper treatment and care in line with Batho Pele principles. Demonstrate a basic understanding of Human Resource and financial policies and practices.
- Demonstrate basic computer literacy as a support tool to enhance service delivery. Ability to plan and organise own work, time and that of support personnel to ensure effective and quality nursing care. Ability to supervise, coordinate and monitor the provision of nursing care to surgical patients.
DUTIES
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective, cost-effective, equitable and efficient nursing care within Surgical Services. Provide quality comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients in accordance with the scope of practice, nursing standards, national core standards and Office of Health Standards Compliance OHSC requirements.
- Ensure effective pre-operative and post-operative nursing care and monitor patients for complications and appropriate management. Ensure compliance with professional, legal and ethical nursing practices, infection prevention and control and patient safety standards.
- Coordinate, supervise and monitor nursing staff and support personnel to ensure effective service delivery. Ensure effective utilisation and management of human, financial and material resources within the unit. Participate in quality improvement, IPC and Health and Safety committees and implement relevant programmes.
- Participate in clinical audits, monitoring and evaluation and implementation of quality improvement initiatives. Perform duties as delegated by the supervisor and provide relief duties in the Assistant Nursing Manager's office when required. Promote effective communication, teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration in the delivery of patient-centred surgical care.
