  • The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching CILT, located in the Centre for Higher Education Development CHED, invites applications from skilled and passionate software developers for this permanent position:

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOB

  • NQF 7 qualification in a relevant discipline Computer Science or Information Systems and 6 years' professional experience in software development, OR a relevant NQF8 qualification plus 3 years' professional experience in software development.
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting web-based applications, with a strong focus on systems integration, API development, expansion and integration of third-party services, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated competence in client-side web development using HTML, CSS and JavaScript and strong server-side development experience using languages such as Java and Python including experience working with XML, JSON, RESTful APIs, and relational databases.
  • Understanding of software development practices including version control, testing methodologies, debugging, and secure application development principles.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative development environment.
  • Competent oral and written professional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.

THE FOLLOWING WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS

  • Supporting online learning environments in a Higher Education context.
  • Experience using AI-supported coding and software development tools to improve development quality, productivity, testing, code review processes, and delivery speed.
  • eLearning experience in another context.
  • Experience with audio and video technologies and Lecture Capture systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO

Developing, customising and supporting

  • Integrations between PeopleSoft and Amathuba D2L Brightspace.
  • Opencast Lecture Capture system
  • Monitoring and reporting services
  • Other eLearning tools hosted by CILT.
