- The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment across the campuses of the University of Pretoria, ensuring that the Institution operates within the reasonable limits of applicable legislation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements
- A relevant Bachelor's/BTech degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management , Safety Management, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Occupational Hygiene, Construction Health and Safety Management, or a related qualification, together with a minimum of three 3 years' proven experience as a Training Officer: Occupational Health, General Safety Officer, Emergency Planner, or Auditor: Occupational Health and Safety; OR
- A relevant Diploma NQF Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Health and Safety Management, or a related qualification, together with a minimum of five 5 years' proven experience as a Training Officer:Occupational Health, General Safety Officer, Emergency Planner, or Auditor: Occupational Health and Safety.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety policies;
- Knowledge and application of safety management techniques;
- Knowledge of emergency planning and preparedness;
- Ability to provide effective training and convey information clearly to individuals and groups;
- Computer literacy and the ability to use relevant computer applications effectively;
- Ability to arrange and assign work and utilise resources efficiently;
- Ability to develop plans to achieve work operations and objectives;
- Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to ensure that information and messages are understood;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships that encourage communication and teamwork; and
- Ability to identify problems, determine appropriate solutions and actively work towards resolving issues.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES
- A valid driver's licence;
- SAMTRAC / SAMTECH qualification;
- ITIS and SSTC courses;
- Industrial Hygiene qualification;
- Advanced Accident Investigation qualification;
- Auditing courses;
- National Diploma: Safety Management NADSAM;
- MBO Management Audit course;
- FPASA Basic Course 5 days;
- First Aid course;
- OHSAS 18001 Auditor qualification;
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment HIRA course;
- Three 3 years' experience within a higher education institution;
- Three 3 years' experience in fire safety and prevention/disaster management.
PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.
- The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
