Join our NOC team as a NOC Engineer in Plattekloof , where you'll monitor, maintain and troubleshoot Herotel's national IP Core and transmission network around the clock. This role is perfect for a proactive, detail oriented networker who stays calm under pressure and wants to grow deep technical skills within a fast paced, 24/7 ISP environment.
What you'll do
- Manage and maintain the accuracy of Herotel's monitoring systems across the IP Core and ISP services
- Identify, respond to and escalate faults on the IP Core and transmission network
- Handle provisioning, including IP assignment and Core and transmission network configuration
- Implement and report on scheduled and approved changes, escalating failed changes to IP Core Engineers when needed
- Maintain WIKI documentation and technical processes for NOC operations
- Assess and prioritise faults, responding or escalating as appropriate
- Commission transmission nodes and fibre transmission links to Herotel's approved standard as the network expands
- Provide first level support and monitoring of the IP Core, including capacity and route optimisation
- Support WISP integration onto the centralised IP Core and national transmission network
- Build, manage and optimise the national transmission network based on SR MPLS, including route and traffic flow management
- Assist WISPs with best practice RFC processes and internal MPLS deployments
What you'll need
- Minimum of 3 years ISP, SP or WISP experience
- Proficiency in IP address and subnet planning and implementation, both v4 and v6
- Proficiency in routing protocols, both internal and external (OSPF, BGP, ISIS etc)
- Proficiency in L2 switching
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- English and Afrikaans proficiency
- Own transport, as shift work is essential in a 24/7, 365 day environment
- Ability to work shifts
- Ability to analyse and define problems, prioritise workflow, multitask and meet deadlines while remaining flexible
- Ability to stay calm under pressure, including during difficult calls or conflict situations
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills
- Proactive, self motivated approach with strong attention to detail
- High level proficiency working on Mikrotik routers and switches advantageous
- Mikrotik MPLS deployment experience advantageous
- Experience with Juniper equipment advantageous
- Proficiency in Mac OS X advantageous
- Juniper, Cisco or other relevant networking certifications advantageous
- Mikrotik certifications advantageous
