Our client is looking for an experienced professional to support and enhance complex network and security environments across datacentres, production systems, cloud connectivity and disaster recovery.

As the Network & Security Engineer, you will work with FortiGate, Extreme Networks, Azure networking, routing and switching, network monitoring and security infrastructure, while collaborating with technical teams, vendors and other stakeholders.

Duties

• Design, implement, support and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN and datacentre network infrastructure.

• Configure and troubleshoot Extreme Networks switching, including VLANs, trunks, STP, link aggregation and resilient network designs.

• Manage and support FortiGate firewalls, including firewall policies, NAT, VPNs, security policies and troubleshooting.

• Support Azure networking and hybrid cloud connectivity, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, routing and VPN connectivity.

• Monitor network, firewall, wireless and cloud infrastructure and respond to performance, availability and security alerts.

• Support datacentre and disaster recovery connectivity, including network redundancy, failover and DR testing.

• Investigate and resolve complex network, firewall, connectivity and production incidents.

• Work with infrastructure, cloud, security, application and service desk teams to resolve technical issues.

• Manage network changes, maintenance activities and configuration updates.

• Maintain accurate network diagrams, firewall documentation, configurations and operational procedures.

• Contribute to continuous improvement, automation, network resilience and security initiatives.

• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior engineers.

Job Experience & Skills Required

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12)

• Relevant IT, Networking, Computer Science or related qualification.

• Fortinet NSE4/NSE5 or current equivalent certification would be advantageous.

• CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Security or equivalent practical experience would be advantageous.

• Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700) certification would be advantageous.

Experience

• At least 7 years' experience in enterprise network engineering.

• Strong hands-on experience with FortiGate firewall administration, policy management, VPN, NAT and troubleshooting.

• Proven experience supporting Extreme Networks switching environments.

• Strong knowledge of routing and switching, including VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP and Layer 2/Layer 3 networking.

• Experience supporting enterprise datacentre connectivity, high-availability environments and production incident response.

• Practical experience with network monitoring, alerting and network health checks.

• Working knowledge of Azure networking and hybrid cloud connectivity, including VNets, NSGs, routing, VPN and private connectivity.

• Experience in financial services, insurance or another regulated environment would be advantageous.

• Experience with FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer or enterprise monitoring platforms would be advantageous.

• Advanced FortiGate and Extreme Networks troubleshooting capabilities.

• Strong knowledge of Azure networking and hybrid connectivity.

• Excellent problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills during network and security incidents.

• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Highly organised and detail-oriented, particularly with network changes and documentation.

• Ability to work independently, take ownership and remain calm under pressure.

• Proactive approach to improving network stability, security and operational efficiency.
