.NET Developer

We are looking for an experienced .NET Developer to take ownership of a modern, cloud-ready software platform that supports a nationally deployed, mission-critical service.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Ownership & Knowledge Transfer

• Take part in a structured handover from the existing external development team.
• Develop a deep understanding of the platform's architecture, codebase, deployment model and operational dependencies.
• Become the primary internal technical owner of the platform.
• Take responsibility for its stability, reliability, maintainability and ongoing evolution.
• Create and maintain technical documentation to support knowledge sharing and future team growth.

Production Support & Reliability

• Provide hands-on support and maintenance for the platform.
• Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve production incidents.
• Monitor application performance and system health.
• Proactively identify potential issues and implement preventative solutions.
• Manage dependency updates, patching and security remediation.
• Communicate technical issues, progress and resolutions clearly to relevant stakeholders.

Software Development & Enhancement

• Design, develop, test and deploy new functionality using C# and modern .NET.
• Contribute to the platform's feature development roadmap.
• Produce clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
• Develop appropriate unit and integration testing.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold development standards.
• Work closely with Product and Project teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Contribute to estimation, technical scoping and delivery planning

API, Integration & Data

• Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs.
• Build and maintain integrations with internal platforms and third-party services.
• Implement robust error handling, retry mechanisms and appropriate security controls.
• Design and optimise relational database structures.
• Develop efficient SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Work with PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server.
• Use ORM technologies such as Entity Framework Core.

Engineering Growth & Technical Leadership

• Contribute to technical hiring and developer assessments.
• Assist with onboarding and mentoring new developers.
• Champion software engineering best practices.
• Promote strong standards around source control, testing, documentation and deployments.
• Help establish a scalable internal engineering culture.
• Work with the wider business to strengthen internal technology capability and reduce reliance on external development resources.

Required Technical Skills

Development

• C#
• Modern .NET 6+, preferably including .NET 8
• NET Core
• RESTful API development

Databases

• Strong relational database experience
• PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server
• Database/schema design
• Query optimisation
• Entity Framework Core or similar ORM

Development Practices

• Git-based version control
• Branching strategies
• Pull requests and code reviews
• CI/CD pipelines
• Unit and integration testing

Ways of Working

• Agile/Scrum experience
• Experience working with existing production codebases
• Strong code-reading and troubleshooting ability
• Comfortable with structured knowledge transfer and technical handovers

Advantageous

• AWS experience, particularly:
• EC2

• S3
• Other managed AWS services
• Cloud-native application development
• Experience supporting mission-critical or nationally deployed platforms
• Experience taking ownership of an inherited/existing application
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience

Qualifications & Experience

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience
• Strong hands-on experience with C# and .NET
• Proven experience delivering and supporting production systems
• Strong experience with NET Core and REST APIs
• Solid relational database experience
• Experience working within cloud-hosted or cloud-native environments
• Relevant degree in:
• Computer Science
• Information Technology
• Software Engineering
• or a related field
