Are you an experienced technical leader who knows heavy machinery inside and out? Our client is looking for a National Technical Manager to oversee all of their heavy equipment, workshop repairs, and technical teams across South Africa.
In this role, you will be the main person responsible for keeping our massive rental fleet—including mobile cranes, welding equipment, and large generators—running safely and efficiently. You will lead workshop managers, manage repair budgets, and work closely with global suppliers to keep our clients in mining, power, and construction happy.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Keep Machines Moving: Oversee the maintenance, fixing, and rebuilding of all heavy equipment and rental plant gear across South Africa.
- Lead the Workshop Teams: Guide, mentor, and manage local workshop managers and mechanical teams.
- Control the Budgets: Plan and manage the money spent on tools, spare parts, and equipment repairs.
- Handle Warranties: Work directly with big international manufacturers to approve and manage equipment warranties.
- Keep Things Safe: Ensure all repairs meet high quality and factory standards, and that your team follows strict safety rules.
- Help Customers: Step in to solve complex technical problems for the major clients when they need expert advice.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Education: A University Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, OR a relevant Red Seal Trade Test certificate with extensive senior management experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience managing large mechanical workshops, heavy industrial plant machinery, or a major mobile crane rental fleet.
- Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading and managing mechanical teams and workshop managers across multiple branches.
- Financial Management: Clear experience setting workshop budgets, controlling costs, and managing spare parts stock.
- Industry Standards: Strong knowledge of ISO quality systems and South African OHS Act safety regulations.
