Introduction

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Production Veterinarian to join our Team. This position will allow you to gain practical experience across an integrated poultry operation, contribute to animal health and welfare, and to develop your technical skills. This position will allow exposure to international experts as well as  conferences exhibiting the latest research and technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Flock health monitoring, disease prevention, diagnosis, and management;

• Development and management of effective vaccination and medication programs;

• Interpretation of laboratory results for standard monitoring and diagnosis;

• Preventative lesion scoring in broilers;

• Routine and diagnostic post-mortem evaluation of broilers and breeders;

• Audits on general bird husbandry, bio-security, welfare and housing conditions;

• Involvement in specific projects to improve production Key Performance Indicators;

• Investigations into problem areas within the breeder flocks, hatcheries, broiler flocks and selected meat safety;

• Maintaining registration of facilities for export / import;

• Communication with State Veterinary Services on controlled diseases and export requirements;

• Formal presentations to production teams and contract producers on various veterinary topics;

• Work collaboratively with farm managers, production personnel, nutritionists, and other technical specialists.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification in veterinary science (BVSc, BVMCh or equivalent);

• Veterinary experience in commercial poultry production will be an added advantage;

• Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).

Technical Competencies

• Microsoft Office Suite

• Valid code B Driver’s license
