Mid-Level C# Developer

Our client is looking for a Mid-Level Software Developer with solid backend development experience to contribute to production systems within a payment-focused technology environment. The successful candidate will work primarily with C#/.NET, relational databases and REST APIs while building the technical foundation required to progress into a senior development position.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Deliver backend functionality using C#/.NET.

• Develop reliable and maintainable code using asynchronous programming and appropriate transactional patterns.

• Build and maintain stored procedures using Oracle PL/SQL or PostgreSQL.

• Integrate RESTful services and handle authentication, errors, retries, pagination and timeouts correctly.

• Implement idempotent processing where required.

• Develop meaningful unit tests covering normal, boundary and failure scenarios.

• Contribute to pull-request reviews and provide useful technical feedback.

• Maintain clear system documentation and operational runbooks.

• Follow secure development practices and PCI-DSS Requirement 6 principles.

• Ensure cardholder data is excluded from application logging.

• Maintain dependencies and follow development security checks.

• Use Git feature branches and clear commit and pull-request descriptions.

• Contribute constructively during Agile ceremonies.

• Develop understanding of cloud deployment and database performance considerations.

• Participate in technical leadership, architecture documentation and mentoring as experience develops.

Essential Experience

• NQF 6 Diploma or NQF 7 Degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.

• 3–5 years' professional backend development experience.

• Strong C#/.NET experience in a production environment.

• 2+ years' experience developing SQL queries and stored procedures in Oracle or PostgreSQL.

• 2+ years' experience writing and maintaining unit tests.

• 2+ years' experience integrating REST APIs.

• 2+ years' experience with Git-based development and pull-request workflows.

Technical Competencies

• C#/.NET, async/await and error handling.

• Transactional processing and idempotency.

• Oracle SQL/PLSQL or PostgreSQL.

• Stored procedure development.

• Indexing and basic execution-plan analysis.

• NUnit or xUnit.

• REST authentication and integration patterns.

• 4xx/5xx handling, retries with backoff, pagination and timeouts.

• Git branching, pull requests and code reviews.

• Runbooks and technical documentation.

• Containers and serverless fundamentals.

• Stateless application design.

• Environment-based configuration.

• Connection pooling and efficient retry strategies.

• Query-performance awareness, including N+1 issues.

Advantageous

• Experience within fintech, payments or financial services.

• Azure Developer Associate, AWS Developer Associate or comparable certification.

• Exposure to cloud-based deployment environments.

• Interest in mentoring and technical leadership.
