The above position will become vacant in Vredendal, reporting to the Quality Manager. The overall purpose of this position will be to assist in the production of safe and quality products.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key areas of responsibility will include
- Perform microbiological testing on in-process materials and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Carry out PCR analyses to identify yeast species.
- Prepare microbiological media, reagents, and samples for microbiological and molecular testing.
- Perform microbiological environmental sampling.
- Record, analyse, and report laboratory results using laboratory databases and documentation systems.
- Identify and immediately report product non-conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective actions and repeat testing.
- Assist in monitoring the quality of potable water.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine calibration on microbiology and PCR laboratory equipment.
- Conduct quality control procedures to verify microbiological test results.
- Ensure laboratory instruments are calibrated and verified according to SOPs, maintaining the master calibration register and reporting deviations.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including consumables and reagents, and coordinate procurement requirements.
- Ensure the safe handling and disposal of chemicals, solvents, biological materials, and laboratory waste in accordance with safety procedures.
- Maintain product retention samples.
- Coordinate the submission of samples for external laboratory analyses.
- Support research projects, validation studies, and method development activities.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory management system requirements.
- Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping, organization, and regulatory compliance.

Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements
- A degree or national diploma in Microbiology, or a similar tertiary qualification in these or related fields.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a Laboratory Environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Microsoft Word, Excel.
- Own reliable transport.
