- Grade 10, 11, 12, or equivalent qualification
- Proficient in English and any other of the 11 official languages
- Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding will be advantageous.
- Previous experience as a Fitter Aide, Engineering Assistant or Mechanical Assistant within a metallurgical plant, processing plant or mining environment will be advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under the supervision of a qualified Artisan.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual work in a plant environment.
- Ability and willingness to work shifts, overtime, standby and during plant shutdowns when required.
- Medically fit to work in a mining and metallurgical plant environment.
- Clear Criminal Record
- South African Citizenship
Responsibilities
- Assisting qualified Fitters with planned and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Assisting with the inspection, repair, installation and replacement of mechanical equipment and components.
- Supporting maintenance activities on pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, screens, crushers, valves, pipelines and other plant equipment.
- Assisting with the removal and installation of bearings, couplings, belts, pulleys and related mechanical components.
- Cleaning, preparing and organising equipment, components and work areas before and after maintenance activities.
- Assisting with basic lubrication and preventative maintenance activities as instructed.
- Carrying, handling and positioning tools, equipment and mechanical components safely.
- Identifying and reporting visible equipment defects, leaks, abnormal noises and unsafe conditions.
- Ensuring that tools and equipment are correctly used, cleaned and returned after completion of work.
- Assisting during plant shutdowns and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Maintaining good housekeeping standards within workshops and plant work areas.
- Complying with Lock-Out/Tag-Out and isolation procedures before maintenance work commences.
- Adhering to all company safety standards, procedures and instructions.
- Wearing and maintaining the required Personal Protective Equipment PPE.
- Participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments and pre-task inspections.
- Performing other reasonable duties related to the position as instructed by the Fitter or Supervisor.
