- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia.
Experience
- Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years' appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia, after registration with the HPCSA or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign-qualified employee.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years' appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Anaesthesia, after registration with the HPCSA or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign-qualified employee.
- Inherent requirements of the job: Valid driver's license and willingness to travel. Willingness to work commuted overtime.
- Competencies knowledge/skills: Clinical experience in Anaesthesia and critical care and be able to render high-quality clinical care in district level Theatre-Anaesthesia-Surgery environment, including responsibilities in high care.
- Excellent administrative and clinical governance skills. Ability to balance a large, diverse clinical workload, with the teaching and supervisory requirements of the position. Be computer literate, have strong administrative, managerial, communication and conflict resolution skills.
DUTIES
- Clinical service delivery at specialist level across the full spectrum of district level Anaesthesia, including operating theatres, endoscopy suite, high care unit and wards.
- Administrative & clinical governance including lead-clinician activities, performance management, theatre & equipment management, morbidity & mortality review, medical record keeping, data analysis and quality improvement.
- Teaching, training and supervision of registrars, medical officers, inters and students, as well as participation in the hospital academic program.
- Domain specific ouputs and participation within the Metro East ecosystem, with a focus on district level theatre efficiency and including all aspects of Theatre-Anaesthesia-Surgery TAS functioning, alignment with & participation in Anaesthesia in the Metro East ecosystem.
