Introduction

A specialist practice is seeking to recruit an experienced Medical Receptionist to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional patient service while managing the day-to-day reception and administrative functions of the practice. This role is ideal for a professional, organised, and patient-focused individual with experience in a private medical practice.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Answer and manage incoming telephone calls, emails, and patient enquiries
  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments and manage the doctor's diary
  • Communicate appointment confirmations, updates, and feedback to patients
  • Liaise with medical aids and hospital administrators regarding authorisations and coding
  • Communicate with the external billing bureau to assist with billing-related queries
  • Coordinate communication between the specialist, patients, referring doctors, and other healthcare providers
  • Process in-room payments and issue receipts
  • Monitor and manage practice stock and supplies
  • Liaise with IT providers, pharmaceutical representatives, and other service providers
  • Maintain accurate patient records and general practice administration
  • Ensure a professional, welcoming, and efficient reception environment.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Medical Receptionist within a private medical practice
  • Previous experience in a surgical practice advantageous
  • Familiarity with private healthcare administration and medical aid processes
  • Experience with medical aid authorisations and procedure coding advantageous
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable working on Mac/Apple devices
  • Experience with medical practice management software advantageous
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans (written and verbal)
  • isiXhosa advantageous
