A specialist practice in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal is seeking to recruit an experienced Medical Receptionist. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the reception and administrative functions of the practice while providing exceptional patient service and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy surgical practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Welcome and assist patients in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer incoming calls, respond to emails, and manage patient enquiries
- Schedule appointments and manage the specialist's diary
- Prepare patient files and documentation for consultations
- Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records
- Verify and update patient information
- Communicate appointment information, billing policies, and practice procedures to patients
- Manage outpatient appointments and patient flow within the practice
- Liaise with external healthcare providers to obtain referrals, clinical notes, and investigation results
- Coordinate theatre bookings, theatre lists, and hospital admissions
- Prepare patient documentation for procedures and hospitalisation
- Track surgical cases and procedure-related administration
- Perform medical billing administration and liaise with billing companies and medical aids
- Process patient payments and allocate receipts accurately
- Liaise with suppliers, IT support providers, hospitals, and other service providers
- Perform general practice administration and provide administrative support to the specialist
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric / Grade 12
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist essential
- Previous experience in a surgical or specialist medical practice essential
- Medical billing experience essential
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and RPL coding essential
- Experience liaising with medical aids and billing companies
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365
- Experience with medical practice management software advantageous
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and isiZulu
