Medical Officer:(Grade 1,2,3) REF NO: GS 8/26

REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 1: Experience: Not Applicable. Foreign qualified candidates require 1year relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognized Foreign Health Professional Council, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
• Grade 2: Experience: 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Officer after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Foreign candidates require 6 years relevant experience after registration with a recognized Foreign Health Professional Council, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
• Grade 3: Experience: 10 years experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. Foreign qualified candidates require 11 years relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognized foreign health professional council in respect of foreign qualified employees of whom it is not required performing community service as required in South Africa. Senior Certificate Grade 12 or equivalent Plus MBCHB Degree or Equivalent qualification, Plus Current Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Practitioner in independent practice
• The Employment Equity Target for this post is: African Male, African Female Additional Qualification/ Information Required Prior clinical care experience in Internal Medicine will be considered as an advantage at short-listing. Internal Medicine specific certification / examinations through the CMSA including the Diploma in Internal medicine and FCP Part 1 will be an added advantage at short-listing.
• Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Sound clinical and patient management skills; human resource management; information management; quality assurance programs Current health and public service legislation, regulations and policy, and medical ethics.

DUTIES

• Clinical skills appropriate to the delivery of Internal Medicine services in the context of Grey's Hospital, as a tertiary health care facility and referral centre.
• Perform duties as part of an extended health care team providing 24 hour per day health care services. Note: Performance of Group 3 Overtime 13 – 20 hours per week is mandatory but may be subject to change depending on operational demands Performance of duties in Area 2, as determined by the Chief Specialist in Internal Medicine and may include rotations between hospitals in the Pietermaritzburg metropole and outreach service to hospitals in Area 2 Performance of tasks supporting clinical care, as allocated by the management team; Participation in quality improvement programmes is required.
• Contribute to the development of the service by willingness to learn and teach, including undergraduate and intern teaching and participation in academic activities of the department, including research. Participate in quality assessment initiatives and audits Provide supervision and support to staff involved in health care services and facilitate the provision of health services.
