A leading engineering and mining equipment organisation is seeking a Mechatronic Engineer to join its technical team and contribute to the design, development, integration, testing and commissioning of advanced mining machinery and equipment. This role is ideally suited to a technically strong engineer with a multidisciplinary background across mechanical, electrical, electronic, automation and control systems , who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and taking equipment from concept through to production and field implementation. Duties & Responsibilities
A leading engineering and mining equipment organisation is seeking a Mechatronic Engineer to join its technical team and contribute to the design, development, integration, testing and commissioning of advanced mining machinery and equipment. This role is ideally suited to a technically strong engineer with a multidisciplinary background across mechanical, electrical, electronic, automation and control systems , who enjoys solving complex engineering problems and taking equipment from concept through to production and field implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop mechatronic systems and mining equipment .
- Integrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and control-system components.
- Develop system architectures, technical specifications and engineering solutions.
- Perform detailed engineering design and component selection.
- Develop and review electrical and mechanical interfaces between subsystems.
- Assist with the design and integration of sensors, actuators, motors, drives and control systems .
- Support PLC, HMI, embedded and automation-related development where required.
- Develop engineering drawings, schematics, layouts, BOMs and technical documentation.
- Conduct engineering calculations, simulations and design verification.
- Participate in prototype development, assembly and equipment testing.
- Conduct testing, commissioning, fault-finding and troubleshooting of mining equipment.
- Investigate equipment failures and implement engineering improvements.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and field-service teams.
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing and project engineering teams.
- Support continuous improvement and equipment optimisation initiatives.
- Liaise with suppliers and assist with technical procurement and component selection.
- Provide technical support to customers and site teams when required.
- Participate in site installations, commissioning and equipment upgrades.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with relevant standards, safety requirements and customer specifications.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- BEng / BSc / BTech degree in Mechatronic Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional registration with ECSA will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years' relevant engineering experience , preferably within mining equipment, heavy machinery, industrial automation or a similar environment.
- Strong multidisciplinary engineering knowledge.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical system integration.
- Experience with industrial equipment, machinery or mobile mining equipment.
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Understanding of electrical control systems, sensors, actuators and instrumentation.
- Experience with testing, commissioning and technical fault-finding.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Willingness to travel to customer and mining sites when required.
