Start free — we apply for you →- Seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to support the design, execution and successful delivery of mechanical engineering projects across South Africa and the African continent.
- This is a hands-on role combining mechanical design, project engineering, fault-finding, client engagement and on-site project support. The successful candidate will be involved in projects from initial planning and design through to installation, commissioning and final handover.
- The role is suited to a committed and driven Mechanical Engineer looking for a long-term opportunity within a growing engineering environment. Experience working with industrial rotating equipment, including gearboxes, turbines and blowers, will be highly advantageous.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3 - 5 years' experience as a mechanical engineering and/or project engineering specific to rotating equipment
- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor – essential
- Experience supporting or managing mechanical projects from design through to commissioning
- Confident communicating directly with clients, contractors and senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities
- Experience with rotating equipment such as industrial gearboxes, turbines or blowers highly advantageous
- Willing and able to travel nationally and across Africa for approximately four to six weeks per project
- Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with mechanical engineering design and the development of practical technical solutions
- Produce and review mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Support the planning and execution of projects from inception through to installation and commissioning
- Conduct fault-finding, technical investigations and root-cause analysis
- Monitor project progress, technical requirements, quality standards and deadlines
- Prepare technical reports, project documentation, progress updates and client feedback
- Participate in quality assurance and ensure compliance with relevant project standards
- Support research and development initiatives and identify opportunities for system optimisation
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term client relationships
- Represent the business professionally during site visits and project assignments across Africa
