MECHANICAL FITTER | HEAVY INDUSTRIAL & MOBILE EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

Introduction

An established industrial processing and manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced, trade-tested Mechanical Fitter to join its maintenance team in Germiston.

This is a hands-on maintenance position requiring strong practical experience in hydraulic fault-finding, diagnostics, maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty mobile and stationary equipment .

The successful candidate must have direct experience working on skid steer loaders, forklifts and excavators , with the ability to independently diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults, identify the cause of equipment failures and carry out effective repairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

Hydraulic Maintenance and Fault-Finding

• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and mechanical faults on mobile and stationary machinery.

• Inspect hydraulic systems, identify leaks, pressure-related problems, component failures and operational defects.

• Remove, repair and replace hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valve blocks and associated components.

• Replace defective hydraulic hoses, pipes, fittings, filters and seals.

• Perform hydraulic pump replacements, including correct installation and priming.

• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and restore machinery to safe, reliable operating condition.

Mobile and Heavy-Duty Equipment

• Conduct mechanical and hydraulic maintenance on skid steers, forklifts and excavators.

• Inspect, remove, replace and adjust mechanical and hydraulic components on heavy-duty equipment.

• Maintain hydraulic attachments, including grabs, buckets, shears and related equipment.

• Perform maintenance and repairs on stationary processing machinery where required.

Preventative and Breakdown Maintenance

• Carry out routine inspections, planned maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs.

• Perform lubrication, oil checks, filter replacements and general equipment servicing.

• Inspect machinery for wear, damage and potential failures.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and equipment inspection reports.

• Follow safe working procedures and maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping.

Desired Experience & Qualification

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS – NON-NEGOTIABLE

• Recognised Red Seal Mechanical Fitter Trade Test Certificate .

• Minimum 4 to 5 years' post-trade experience , preferably within heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining, recycling or earthmoving environments.

• Proven hands-on maintenance and repair experience on all three of the following:

• Skid steer loaders

• Forklifts

• Excavators

• Strong practical knowledge of hydraulic systems, components and operating principles.

• Demonstrated ability to perform hydraulic fault-finding and diagnostics , identify component failures and carry out repairs independently.

• Practical experience with hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, fittings and seals.

• Experience with planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs and mechanical component replacement.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and hydraulic schematics.

• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
