The company operates a high-volume manufacturing environment featuring processing machinery, automated conveyors, and cold-storage facilities.
The Role: Mechanical Fitter
The primary purpose of the Mechanical Fitter is to maximize plant availability and uptime. The role focuses on addressing equipment breakdowns, executing preventative maintenance, and optimizing specialized processing machinery.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Hold a minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience as a Fitter and 5 years of welding experience within a manufacturing environment.
Execute planned preventative maintenance schedules and respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime.
Fit, align, lubricate, repair, and remove mechanical components using hand tools, hoists, jacks, and precision instruments.
Install, repair, and maintain processing machinery according to layout diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and technical equipment issues independently or collaboratively.
Operate welding equipment to assemble and fuse structural components of mechanical systems while managing welding files and inspecting tools.
Conduct regular, structured inspections of plant machinery, mechanical equipment, and facility structures to identify wear early.
Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety guidelines and assist with general facility upkeep.
Desired Experience & Qualification
About You
Minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience as a Fitter within a manufacturing setting.
Minimum of 5 years of welding experience within a production or manufacturing environment.
Grade 12 and/or N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
Recognized Trade Test Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter.
Valid driver's license and own reliable transport.
High level of technical acumen to read engineering drawings and safely operate workshop power tools.
Strong ownership mindset, clear communication skills, adaptability to operational changes, and physical fitness to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme cold-storage environments.
Welding certification (MIG, TIG, Arc) is highly advantageous.
Prior exposure to food or protein processing environments is highly advantageous.
Practical knowledge of HACCP, food safety regulations, pest control, and SOPs is advantageous.
