Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Start Date: 2026-07-30 - 2026-08-29 Vacancy Type: Permanent DUR000442 Sectors: Engineering and Technical Location: KwaZulu-Natal , Durban Salary: R 500000 - R 800000 Annually Cost To Company (pension fund, medical aid, Market related, Negotiable) Brief: mechanical engineer|oil and gas|petrochemical|pressure vessel A well-established consulting engineering firm in Durban is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of oil and gas, petrochemical and related industrial projects. The successful candidate will undertake mechanical engineering design, technical investigations and project coordination while supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams. This position will suit an engineer with strong industrial mechanical design capabilities and experience managing engineering deliverables within agreed time, cost and quality requirements. Detail: Requirements BSc or BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering. Relevant mechanical engineering design experience within the oil and gas, petrochemical or a comparable process-industry environment. Demonstrated experience in engineering project coordination or project management. Practical experience with industrial piping systems, pump selection and hydraulic design. Ability to prepare and review mechanical engineering calculations, specifications, reports and design documentation. Experience using relevant mechanical engineering design or simulation software. Understanding of engineering quality, safety and compliance requirements. Advantageous: Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng). Experience conducting plant audits and engineering studies. Experience with firefighting system design. Key Responsibilities: Deliver mechanical engineering designs for oil and gas, petrochemical and related industrial projects. Design and review piping systems, pump selections, hydraulic systems and firefighting systems. Conduct plant audits, engineering studies, technical investigations and troubleshooting. Prepare and review calculations, simulations, specifications, drawings and technical reports. Coordinate mechanical engineering activities within agreed project schedules, budgets and quality requirements. Support multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians and draughtspersons. Identify technical risks, design deviations and project changes, and recommend corrective action. Ensure compliance with project standards, client specifications, safety legislation and ISO management systems. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering team members.
