Mechanical Draughtsman Sheetmetal and Solidworks

A well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Draughtsman with strong sheet-metal design and SolidWorks experience to join its technical design team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, sheet-metal designs, assemblies and technical documentation for a range of engineered products and equipment. This role is ideally suited to a technically strong draughtsman who understands design for manufacture , has excellent attention to detail and can translate engineering concepts into accurate, production-ready designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Design and detail sheet-metal components, assemblies and fabricated structures .
• Develop flat patterns, bend details, cut-outs, holes, folds and sheet-metal features.
• Produce accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
• Develop detailed assembly drawings and exploded views.
• Apply appropriate dimensions, tolerances, materials, finishes and manufacturing specifications .
• Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) .
• Create and manage SolidWorks parts, assemblies and drawing files.
• Ensure designs are suitable for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
• Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
• Liaise closely with engineers, production staff, fabricators and suppliers.
• Interpret engineering sketches, concepts and specifications and convert them into detailed CAD designs.
• Modify and optimise existing designs based on manufacturing or customer requirements.
• Investigate and resolve drawing, fabrication and assembly issues.
• Assist with prototype development and product improvements.
• Incorporate engineering changes and maintain accurate revision-controlled documentation.
• Ensure all drawings comply with company drawing standards and relevant engineering practices.
• Support production with technical drawings and clarification of design requirements.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical input where required.
• Maintain organised CAD files and engineering documentation.
• Work closely with the engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Mechanical Draughting / Mechanical Engineering qualification .
• 35 years' relevant mechanical draughting experience .
• Strong practical experience in sheet-metal design and detailing .
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks
