We are seeking a capable and detail-driven Mechanical Design Engineer / Structural Analyst to join a specialist engineering team involved in product design and development from initial concept design through to global compliance certification.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical design, structural analysis and engineering support across a range of tanker and heavy trailer products. This role requires strong technical ability, practical engineering judgement and the ability to work within international market requirements and manufacturing constraints. This is an opportunity to contribute to technically demanding trailer and tanker products used in highly regulated transport sectors across multiple international markets. The role offers variety, practical engineering challenges and the opportunity to be involved from concept through to manufacturing support.

Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical designs for road tanker trailers, pressure-containing equipment and heavy goods trailer structures.
- Perform load calculations, structural calculations and finite element analysis to support product integrity, safety and compliance.
- Optimize designs for weight reduction, payload maximization, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Perform pressure vessel design calculations, design reports and supporting documentation for pressure vessel approval.
- Compile comprehensive technical documentation, finite element analysis reports, and certification dossiers
- Support design verification, product improvements, failure investigations and manufacturing problem-solving.
- Work closely with production, quality, sales and management teams to deliver robust, manufacturable and cost-effective designs.
- Ensure designs meet applicable customer requirements, regulatory expectations and market-specific standards.
- Participate in component verification activities.
- Identifies continuous improvement/automation activities.
- Coaches, reviews and delegates work for lower-level professionals.
- Creates and manages institutional knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Skills and Experience
- B.Eng./B.Sc. Eng or M.Sc. Eng in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years related experience.
- Experience in pressure vessel design.
- Competence in 3D CAD modelling and engineering drawing preparation (experience of Creo or SolidWorks will be beneficial).
- Proven expertise using finite element analysis software for linear and non-linear structural analysis (experience of Abaqus will be beneficial).
- Experience with ERP and PDM tools
- Experience writing and reviewing analysis/test reports
- Good understanding of steels, aluminum, materials selection, fabrication methods, welding, machining, bolted connections, mechanical components, and practical workshop constraints.
- Ability to read and produce general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, assemblies, weld details, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
