Design Engineer (Mechanical) – Mineral Sizing / Materials Handling

Our clients is a global leader in mineral processing and materials handling equipment for over 42 years, is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their African Engineering Office. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer with a structural background to contribute to innovative, heavy-engineering solutions across the African mining sector.

About the Role You'll take ownership of concept and detailed design work for structures, conveyors, and associated mining equipment, supporting projects from initial estimation through to final execution. You'll work closely with sales, engineering, and client teams, and travel across Africa to investigate mechanical issues and support projects on-site. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Concept and detailed design of structures, conveyors, and equipment using 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks, Draftsight, AutoCAD, Ansys, Rocky)

• Support sales with technically sound, commercially viable bid proposals

• Manage engineering projects from tender through to contract negotiation and delivery

• Investigate mechanical failures and maintenance issues at mine sites across Africa

• Produce drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation

• Liaise with clients, sub-vendors, and internal departments to deliver project outcomes

• Monitor compliance with codes, QA/QC standards, and performance specifications

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum)

• PrEng certification

• Proven experience in a projects environment

• Strong SolidWorks and AutoCAD skills (essential)

• Experience with Ansys (FEA) and Rocky (DEM) advantageous

• Experience designing conveyors (0–200m)

• Background in mining, materials handling, or crushing/sizing/screening highly desirable

• Structural engineering background preferred

• Willingness to travel across Africa

• Valid driver's licence and clean criminal record
