Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will execute mechanical designs for small and medium transformers (Distribution, Power, Renewables, BESS, VSD, Rectifiers, etc.) up to 20MVA / 52KV class.
In order to be considered for this role you must have the following
Higher National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Transformer Industry.
Knowledge of Mechanical Design Calculations/Simulations and Transformer Manufacturing processes.
Ability to work with standard and customised design software; experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks is advantageous.
Syspro knowledge and/or other ERP systems like SAP.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
A legal driving licence and the ability to travel to site when the need arises.
Strong customer service orientation and the ability to make independent decisions.
Key Accountabilities (But not limited to)
Execute mechanical design calculations (Technical, Parts, Materials, etc.) and designs for transformer active-parts and tanks.
Analyse, interpret, and maintain complex databases and national/international technical standards.
Review designs of peers and release engineering documentation for production.
Assist various departments (Sales, Proposals, Contracts, PCP, etc.) with technical queries.
Analyse and interpret customer specifications, schedules, and special requirements.
Train and support Junior Design Engineers on design, software, and processes.
Participate in Quality Control/Assurance activities and assist in updating technical standards.
