Mechanical Design Engineer

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with solid experience in mining, heavy machinery, or heavy engineering environments? This opportunity is suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys taking complex mechanical designs from initial concept through detailed design and into manufacture, with a strong focus on practical, reliable, and technically sound engineering solutions. Duties & Responsibilities

Job Description

• Develop mechanical designs for heavy machinery, equipment, and mechanical systems

• Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation

• Perform engineering calculations and assist with component and material selection

• Take designs from concept development through detailed design and manufacturing

• Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation

• Review designs to ensure functionality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness

• Liaise with manufacturing, production, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning

• Participate in design reviews and identify opportunities for product and design improvements

• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and project specifications

• Assist with technical investigations, problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years' mechanical design experience

• Experience within the mining, heavy machinery, heavy engineering, or mining equipment environment

• Strong 3D CAD modelling and detailed mechanical design experience

• Experience designing mechanical components, equipment, and assemblies

• Ability to produce and interpret manufacturing and engineering drawings

• Sound understanding of materials, fabrication, machining, and manufacturing processes

• Experience with Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation

• Understanding of tolerances, fits, and engineering drawing principles

• Experience taking designs from concept through to manufacture and implementation

• Strong analytical and mechanical problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work effectively with manufacturing and multidisciplinary engineering teams

• SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software experience will be advantageous

Qualification

• BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
