Mechanical Design Engineer – Mining Equipment and Specialised Vehicles Duties & Responsibilities
Qualifications
- B-Tech/B Sc or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Heavy equipment, structural, or automative design specialisation would be advantageous
Experience
- 3 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing (preferable within mining, heavy equipment, or specialised vehicle industry)
Skills
- Autodesk Inventor Professional Proficiency
- Autodesk Vault Proficiency
- FEA and Fluid Dynamics Analysis Tools
- Knowledge of Hydraulic, Pneumatic, and Fuel Systems for Heavy Mobile Equipment
- Material Science Knowledge (structural steels, wear-resistant materials)
- Knowledge of Mining Equipment Design Standards (e.g., SANS, MHSA, OEM specifications)
- Structural & Welded Assembly Design for Heavy-Duty Applications
- Project Management
- Cross-Functional Collaboration with Manufacturing, Procurement & Site Teams
