Conways Aluminium is a leading supplier of Aluminium Extrusions and Hardware in Southern African. They supply various market segments in the architectural fenestration and related industries. They have a strategically placed geographical network of branches nationwide that predominantly sell fenestration systems to aluminium and glass fabricators that fabricate and install windows, doors, shop fronts, curtain walls, showers, etc. in new or renovation construction projects. They furthermore stock and sell standard aluminium profiles like angles, flats, tubes, bars, and channels to the public.
Position Overview
This position at Conways is responsible for the careful handling, packing, and organization of stock to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This role involves picking, wrapping, and loading goods onto vehicles, as well as receiving and dispatching stock to maintain excellent customer service standards. The Material handler will inspect materials for quality, maintain clean and organized warehouse areas, and assist with deliveries when necessary. Additionally, the role includes supporting controllers and drivers, verifying payments, adhering to safety regulations, and participating in stock-taking activities. Flexibility to work overtime and Saturdays, along with a commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement, is essential for success in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Carefully pick, wrap, protect, and load stock onto vehicles for delivery or collection, ensuring items are secure and undamaged.
- Properly pack away materials on designated racks and assist with the receiving of stock, ensuring items are stored safely and efficiently.
- Accurately receive and dispatch stock to maintain high standards of customer service.
- Inspect materials for quality, properly interleaving and protecting them when wrapping to prevent damage.
- Identify and rectify any racks or trolleys that have lost protection to avoid material damage.
- Ensure designated warehouse areas, racks, and stock are always clean, organized, and free from hazards.
- Assist controllers and drivers in safely packing and strapping vehicles to prevent damage during transit.
- Support controllers in promptly and courteously servicing customers, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Follow relevant SOPs, ensuring complete Proof of Collection (POC) is obtained from customers when assisting.
- Follow common practice, policies and SOP’s to ensure good team cohesion and accurate safe stock movement and prevent stock losses.
- Check Cash/EFT invoices to ensure no goods are dispatched without proof of payment.
- Delivery Assistance:
- Deliver undamaged goods timely and accurately as per driver SOPs when required.
- Ensure stock on vehicles is safely packed and strapped to avoid damage.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness to uphold a professional company image.
- Inspect and maintain the vehicle, ensuring adherence to housekeeping and safety standards.
- Follow road rules and safety regulations, using protective gear as needed.
- Participate in compulsory stock takes to ensure inventory accuracy as required.
- Report any unauthorized, collusive, suspicious, unsafe or unproductive behaviour or attempts of/by anyone to Mgt or the Whistleblower hotline.
- Be available to work overtime and Saturdays on a flexible basis when required.
- Continually improve and maintain general housekeeping to uphold a professional image.
- Actively participate as a member of the Conways team, performing additional functions requested by management to enhance branch productivity and support self-development.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent. Recognition for prior learning (experience) will also be considered.
- Driver License – EB (Code 8) with valid PrDP.
