- The following permanent position has become available within our pelagic fleet. This position will operate from our Lucky Star site in St Helena Bay.
- The incumbent will report to the Skipper of the vessel MFV Alert.
- The successful applicant will support the Skipper in the bridge and handle certain tasks on deck.
Key Job Outputs
- Assist the Mate with the following duties:
- Maintaining a safe navigational watch
- Leading and participating in fishing activities on the deck
- Understanding and operating hydraulic and electronic equipment onboard
- Ensuring overall safety of the crew
- Coordinate net repairs onboard
- Responsibility for the vessel in the absence of the Skipper
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
Working knowledge of the following Legislation
- Maritime Occupational Safety Regulations
- Code of Safe Working Practices for Fishing Vessels
- Safety Manual System of the Pelagic Fleet Operations
- Small Pelagic Fleet permit conditions and Operating Manual
- Net mending skills
- Good knowledge of ropes, wires, knots and splicing
- Strong communicator
Qualifications, Competencies and Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience on Purse Seine Fishing Vessels
- Bilingual
- Valid SAMSA medical certificate
- Valid Grade 4 Watchkeeper Certificate/Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch on fishing vessels (≥24m) limited waters [STCW-F 11/4] – minimum
- Valid Restricted Radio License
- Pre Sea and a Seamans Discharge Book
- Valid Marine Fire Fighting and First Aid at Sea Certificates
