Position Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Operations Officer to join their Johannesburg operations team.

This entry-level opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate with a degree in Finance, Banking, Economics or Accounting who is fluent in Mandarin and English and is looking to build a career within banking operations.

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day operations function while ensuring that transactions and processes comply with applicable FinSurv reporting, South African Reserve Bank (SARB) requirements and Exchange Control regulations. The role will provide broad exposure to banking operations, international settlements, treasury, trade finance, account management and operational controls.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, workflows and operational documentation for the Johannesburg Processing Centre.

Process branch SWIFT messages, including message receiving, sending, distribution, investigation of abnormal messages and related processing.

Process and monitor transactional parameters, including interest rates, foreign exchange rates, holidays and deposit parameters.

Assist with client, NOSTRO and VOSTRO account management, including account opening, reconciliation, balance monitoring, interest and charge bookings, adjustments and related administration.

Support treasury back-office operations, including the booking and settlement of Spot, Forward, Swap and Derivative transactions, as well as money market and bond transactions.

Assist with international settlement activities, including Letters of Credit (LCs), guarantees and collections, covering issuing, document checking, settlement and payment processes.

Support trade finance processing, including bill purchase, forfaiting, refinancing and factoring, including system input, settlement and repayment activities.

Process transactions in accordance with FinSurv reporting and Exchange Control requirements.

Assist with SARB quarterly and annual audit requirements, ensuring relevant documentation and information are accurately maintained.

Monitor and assist with branch accounting relating to various transactions and banking products.

Support the optimisation of the branch's core banking system, including system testing, reporting system errors and assisting with issue resolution.

Assist the Head of Department with training and knowledge-sharing within the operations department.

Perform additional operational and administrative duties as reasonably required by the Head of Department.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Accounting or a related field.

0–1 year of working experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Fluent in Mandarin and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
