Job Title - Manager: Shift

Location - Clayville Factory

Role description

To lead and manage shift operations to ensure safe, efficient production, high-quality output, and optimal team performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Operational performance

• Manage business performance as per target set

• Lead and manage shift operations to achieve production volume, quality, and safety targets.

• Drive reduction of held ware through thorough investigation and process improvement initiatives.

• Ensure strict compliance with Quality Management Systems, including effective defect management throughout the shift.

Documentation & Process Control

• Ensure held ware remains at ≤ 1% and that at least 1 GMP is raised per shift.

• Conduct and document thorough investigations into customer complaints and held ware.

• Maintain consistent shift performance scores and manage critical defects according to standards.

• Ensure all relevant operational documents are completed, reviewed, and actioned, including:

• CCP & NCR forms, Shift Logs, Pressure & Capacity reports, Annealing and Hot End Coating

• documentation, Repacks, Resorts, and Warehouse Withdrawal documents.

Leadership & People Management

• Conduct effective MDWT meetings and ensure satisfactory attendance.

• Manage and control overtime, ensuring compliance with approval processes.

• Oversee leave planning and ensure seamless temporary cover arrangements.

• Drive attendance motivation and ensuring absenteeism remains below 2% within the crew.

• Lead, motivate, and support shift personnel to ensure optimal performance and high staff morale.

• Manage recruitment, induction, performance management, development, recognition, communication, and discipline.

Training & Development

• Develop and maintain a robust succession plan.

• Establish and maintain a competency matrix for all staff.

• Provide coaching and mentoring on all aspects of Cold End operations.

• Create and implement a departmental Development Plan across all key roles (Cold End Specialists,

• Line Controllers, Packaging Attendants, etc.).

Relationship Management

• Hold relevant service departments accountable for support and deliverables.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal plant performance and alignment with business objectives.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the shift.

• Enforce and enhance operational safety standards in line with legislation and company policies.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

• Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects and cross-functional initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and product quality.

Budget & System Administration

• Manage shift-related budgets including overtime and consumables.

• Maintain accurate shift records and ensure effective payroll data administration.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent

• A tertiary qualification in production or operations

• Ardagh/ Consol Supervisory Program will be an added advantage

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum 5 years relevant management experience of which at least 3 years should have been acquired within a manufacturing environment in a management role

• Knowledge and experience in GR8
