MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

NOVO Energy solves a fundamental infrastructure problem — delivering natural gas by virtual pipeline to customers across South Africa who cannot access a physical gas network. We compress, transport and deliver CNG to industrial and commercial customers wherever they are, replacing expensive and carbon-intensive liquid fuels with cleaner, more cost-effective natural gas.

About the Role

As a Maintenance Technician (Field) , you will be NOVO's technical representative at customer sites across South Africa — installing, commissioning, servicing, fault-finding and repairing the pressure reduction stations, gas packs and skid trailers that keep our customers supplied with gas.

You will be based at our Highveld CNG facility in eMalahleni , but your work will take you nationally. When you are not in the field, you will be supporting the Highveld compressor fleet alongside our Compressor Specialist — building your skills and contributing to the heartbeat of our operations.

This is a role for a technically capable, self-reliant individual who is equally comfortable working independently on a customer site and representing NOVO professionally in front of a customer's engineering or operations team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Pressure Reduction Stations Service, fault-find, repair and commission the full pressure reduction train — including filtration, preheating, regulators, slam-shut valves, relief devices, metering and odourisation systems.

• Gas Packs, Storage and Cylinders Maintain cylinder packs, bundles, manifolds, valves and relief devices. Keep periodic inspection records and equipment certification current and compliant.

• Gas Skid Trailers and Decanting Maintain trailers, valves, hoses and couplings. Execute safe decanting operations with correct bonding and purging procedures, and verify dangerous goods road compliance before and after transport.

• Installation and Commissioning Install, pressure test, purge and commission new customer installations and modifications. Support customer gas trains and burner management systems during handover and start-up.

• Compressor Support at Highveld When not deployed in the field, assist the Compressor Specialist with planned maintenance, overhauls and breakdown response on the Highveld compressor fleet — building your competence progressively towards independent execution.

• Field Service and Customer Interface Own your assigned service schedule, meet the response commitments in customer service agreements, and represent NOVO with professionalism and technical credibility on every customer site.

• SHERQ, Lone Working and Records Risk-assess every task before you start. Apply the correct controls for high-pressure gas, working at height and hazardous areas. Stop unsafe work — your own or anyone else's. Complete accurate service records after every job.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• A trade certificate as a Fitter, Millwright, Instrument Mechanician or Diesel Mechanic , or an N6 / National Diploma in a Mechanical or Instrumentation discipline

• 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in gas, petrochemical or a comparable industrial environment (strong technicians from wider industries — mining, manufacturing, utilities — are encouraged to apply)

• Hands-on experience with gas regulation equipment : regulators, slam-shut valves, relief valves, filtration and metering systems

• Field service experience : independent site attendance and direct customer or site personnel contact

• Fault-finding ability across mechanical, pneumatic and basic instrumentation and control systems

• SAQCC Gas registration in the appropriate category, or a confirmed ability to register within an agreed period following appointment

• A valid Code B driver's licence , willingness to travel extensively across South Africa and medical fitness for field work in industrial environments

Advantageous

• High-pressure gas experience at 200 bar and above

• Cylinder, bundle and tube trailer decanting experience

• A Code EC licence and Professional Driving Permit (PDP) with dangerous goods endorsement

• Hazardous area competency — SANS 60079, IECEx or CompEx

• Combustion and burner management system training

• Any exposure to LNG or cryogenic systems and equipment
